I started collecting cards when I was a kid. The first time I ever got a pack was at a local card shop. I went with my brother and we both got a pack of 91-92 Upper Deck Basketball. I pulled a Dikembe Mutombo RC and my brother pulled a Larry Johnson RC. That was all it took for me to start collecting until I was about 14 or 15 years old. Growing up I became a huge fan of David Robinson and the spurs and mostly collected those cards.
A little over a month ago, a buddy of mine from work started talking to me about football cards. He told me he started collecting again and I chuckled and thought about how silly that was. Then we talked some more and it got me thinking that maybe that idea wasn’t so silly. So during my lunch break that day at work, I decided to take a trip to the local Target store and bought a couple misc. packs of football and basketball cards just for fun. I pulled a C.J. Spiller jersey card from 2013 Score and the rest is history as they say. Now I’ve spent hundreds of dollars since then and I’m in a little bit of debt but it’s ok. My buddy is in the same boat so we fight together each day to get our finances in order and still buy more cards. It’s a battle we usually lose but the important thing to remember is that it’s a hobby at the end of the day and we’re just having fun.
